SSEC scientists and engineers improve our understanding of atmospheric processes and phenomena. We are dedicated to cutting-edge research in earth and space science, from designing and demonstrating new instrument technology to developing algorithms, creating products, and analyzing information, to sharing our data, our tools and our knowledge. #PhysicalSciences
SSEC Software Capabilities
SSEC has considerable expertise in designing and implementing computing systems for scientific applications. High-performance data processing software, real-time meteorological instrument systems, cutting-edge visualization software, and interactive database and web application development are among the active projects executed by SSEC staff. Specific examples include the SSEC Satellite Data Ingestors, a rack-mount satellite data ingest appliance built using Linux and delivered ready-to-run; the High Spectral Resolution Lidar (HSRL), a fully automated instrument system capable of resolving atmospheric structure in fine detail; and Vis-AD, an open-source visualization toolset permitting collaborators across the web to manipulate large datasets in an interactive three-dimensional environment. Furthermore, SSEC has the capability to architect and manage software projects, whether it be by IEEE software processes, research-oriented prototyping, or open source.
